ESCH-R visits Leiden University Medical Center

October 15, 2026

ESCH-R recently visited Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) together with Jan Carel (JC) Diel of Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and a group of students and postdoctoral researchers.

The visit provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, explore current developments at LUMC and discuss how research and innovation can contribute to more sustainable and future-proof healthcare. Diel, whose work at TU Delft focuses on the intersection of design, sustainability and innovation, helped bring together different perspectives during the visit.

Anne van der Eijk, biomedical engineer and healthcare innovation specialist at LUMC, also joined the programme and contributed to the discussions. Her experience in healthcare innovation and sustainability provided an important link between research, technology and practical implementation in the hospital environment.

For the students and postdocs, the visit offered a valuable opportunity to meet researchers and professionals working at the interface of science, technology and healthcare. The discussions highlighted the importance of connecting academic research with real-world challenges — and of creating new opportunities for collaboration across institutions and disciplines.

The visit was an inspiring day of scientific exchange, networking and new connections between ESCH-R, TU Delft and LUMC.
