Two-Day Co-Creation Session on Circular Healthcare ESCH-R WP4

February 26, 2026

On 10 and 11 March, partners and stakeholders of the ESCH-R project will come together for an intensive two-day co-creation session focused on advancing circular innovation in healthcare. The sessions are designed to foster collaboration, shared learning, and the development of actionable strategies around circular business models and procurement.

Day 1: Focus on Circular Business Models

The first day will focus on Circular Business Models (CBMs). Using a structured method, we will consider a wide range of CBM archetypes and link these to example products:

  • Welcome, presentation of the updated CBM taxonomy, and introduction to the “Unlocking the Loop” toolbox for CBM design.
  • Step 1 “Unlocking the Loop” – Business Model Decision Tree: Group exercise to identify suitable CBM archetypes for each case product, followed by short presentations and discussion.
  • Step 2 “Unlocking the Loop” – Circular Business Model Identity Card: Refinement of selected CBM concepts, exploration of value mechanisms, followed by short presentations and discussion.
  • Wrap-up and next steps: Collective feedback on the process, planning follow-up actions, and informal closing with drinks

Day 2: Circular Purchasing Strategies

The second day will shift attention on Circular Procurement Strategies (CPSs). Considering that some circular solutions exist but many solutions still need to be developed, we will identify and discuss the varying needs for collaborative approaches between industry, hospitals and other stakeholders to implement circular solutions in the hospital system.

  • Welcome; Procurement actor mapping for current situation – plenary exercise; Presentation on supply ecosystems for circular procurement in healthcare.
  • Future-focused exercise to understand the type of actors and their interactions in a circular ecosystem (in two parallel groups).
  • Sharing the findings of this actor mapping exercise across groups. Discuss conditions and contextualization.
  • Consolidate learnings. Identify research questions for future exploration and follow-up interviews.
  • Wrap-up of the two days and next steps: Outlook to the next meetup and future roadmap activities.
