Sustainability in Healthcare – Research at the Erasmus MC

July 8, 2025

Erasmus MC has published a brochure showcasing its research contributions to planetary health and sustainable healthcare from 2021 through April 2025. The brochure highlights a total of 41 publications originating from 12 different departments, representing a quarter of all Erasmus MC departments.

This brochure demonstrates the growing engagement of the academic community with sustainability issues in healthcare and aligns closely with the broader research strategy of Erasmus MC.

The initiative has been supported by the research committee of the Taskforce “Een Duurzaam Erasmus MC,” including ESCH-R PI Dr. Nicole Hunfeld, Prof. Dr. Ir. Lex Burdorf, Prof. Dr. Joost Boormans, Prof. Dr. Peter Siersema, and Prof. Dr. Koen Joosten.

Additional support is extended from Hans-Peter Schilte, Caroline Poot, Prof. Dr. Diederik Gommers, Prof. Dr. Dick Tibboel, Dr. Joke Boonstra, Prof. Dr. Stefan Sleijfer, Connie Meilof-Otterspeer, and all authors and co-authors who contributed to these publications.

The work has been further supported through collaboration with consortia and initiatives, including the ESCH-R consortium, ZEE consortium, Convergence (TU Delft–Erasmus MC–EUR), “Samen de zorg vergroenen,” and the Green Deal “Samen werken aan duurzame zorg.”
