Surgical Operating Unit Sustainability Event

At the end of March healthcare professionals and policy-makers from various hospitals in the Netherlands came together to tak about sustainability in healtcare during the Surgical Operating Unit Sustainability Event. Leading experts such as Dr Nicole Hunfeld, Prof Jan Carel Diehl, Prof Frank Willem Jansen and Dr Egid van Bree gave the audience insightful presentations on the various aspects of sustainability and both current and future challenges.





Mike Marinaro, Executive Vice President Medical Surgical of Medtronic opened the day with an overview of what Medtronic has already accomplished in the past two years, and gave an outlook of the company’s strategy and mid/long-term goals. During the day, several aspects of environmental impact in healthcare were discussed from both healthcare and industry perspectives, to find common collaborative paths to accelerate the decarbonization of the sector.
The event was also the perfect occasion to introduce Medtronic’s newly appointed Chief Sustainability Officer, Raman Venkatesh, who shared his vision on sustainability, reinforcing the commitment that the company has in driving carbon footprint reduction and in investing resources to accelerate towards carbon neutrality. The sustainability event, led by Ruud Veltenaar, marked an important step for further, closer collaboration in making healthcare more sustainable together.
