Opinion piece: Cabinet, Embed Sustainability in Appropriate Care – with Maike Tietschert (WP3 and WP4)

Recently, an Opinion piece about Cabinet, Embed Sustainability in Appropriate Care has been published in ZorgVisie; a leading independent platform and professional publication for managers, executives, and policymakers in Dutch healthcare. The opinion piece has been authored by Frédérique Franken (PhD candidate), Maike Tietschert (Assistant Professor), and Frederick Thielen (Assistant Professor) from the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management.
The new cabinet wants to make healthcare more affordable and establishes appropriate care as the standard. But one crucial lever remains underexposed: the ecological sustainability of healthcare. Now is precisely the moment to explicitly embed sustainability in appropriate care, not as an additional policy area but, according to the IZA, as an integral component. After all, unsustainable is not appropriate.
