ESCH-R WP4 Roadmap Session – Building the future of circular healthcare together

October 29, 2025

On October 28th, the ESCH-R WP4 team gathered at the Langeveld Building in Rotterdam – the most sustainable university building in the Netherlands – for a collaborative roadmap session that will guide our work until 2028.

Under the moderation of the team of Zeewaardig, and with inspiring contributions from our consortium partners including SABIC, Medtronic, Wittenburg, DORC, Philips, and PreZero and academic hospitals UMC Utrecht and Erasmus MC, we worked on:

  • Creating collective buy-in for the WP4 approach for the coming year
  • Selecting two example products to explore circular business models
  • Defining next steps for our 2026 co-creation sessions

Throughout the day, each company and organisation added their ideas and perspectives to a shared roadmap, visualizing the journey toward circular business models and procurement strategies in healthcare.

As Maike Tietschert beautifully summarized: “Our roadmap is our compass – a tool for integrating knowledge across boundaries, enabling reflection, learning, and creating outcomes meaningful to both science and practice.”

With shared energy, inspiring insights from SABIC’s Gert Coun and Medtronic’s Janny Boekhout, and a strong sense of collaboration, we took another important step towards closing the loop in the medical value chain regarding circularity.

Together, we’re shaping the future of circular healthcare!
