First ESCH-R Webinar hosted by Jan Carel Diehl

The first ESCH-R Webinar took place, featuring Jan Carel Diehl as the keynote speaker! Titled “Welcome into the World of Sustainable Hospitals: A Multi-Level Perspective on Sustainability at the Erasmus MC.” The session provided valuable insights into sustainability and circularity in healthcare.
The webinar explored how various environmental assessment methods can be applied when initiating research on the use of medical equipment in hospitals. The findings were eye-opening: on average, hospitals use approximately 108 gloves, 57 gauze pads, 24 syringes, 16 disposable gowns and many more equipment per patient per day.
WP4 Meet-up: Driving Circularity in Hospitals

What does a circular hospital look like and what would be its role in a circular healthcare ecosystem?
On December 10, a WP4 meet-up took place at the Philips head office, bringing together a diverse group of industry partners in a hybrid format. The meet-up also involved crucial planning for the upcoming years. Discussions centered around what will be achieved in 2025, the goals to be set, and the strategy for building a strong ecosystem in the process.

Together towards a more sustainable healthcare practice
This Community of Practice for Nurses: Together towards a more sustainable healthcare practice (in Dutch: Samen naar een Duurzamere Zorgpraktijk) is an initiative from Workpackage 6, led by Dr. Ellen Bakker, and focuses on nurses and aims to share knowledge and best practices regarding circularity in healthcare. By involving healthcare professionals and other stakeholders, the Community of Practice contributes to the implementation of circular solutions in the healthcare sector.

During our visit to Philips we did all together a small assignment on the Pulse Oxi meter. It was interesting to see the different perspectives of all of you as well as how you would approach your research on this topic.
Inspired by this we will organize two trainings days with the pulse oxi meter as red thread. Aim will be to work on skill development as well as team building.
The first training day is planned for Monday January 27th 09.00–17.00. This day will be organized by Niels Hagenaars and Lisa Vogelpoel of Gupta Strategists.

Since the beginning of 2024, we have been collaborating with industry to rethink and redesign medical consumables and packaging, following the 10-Rs circularity framework, to drive hospitals toward a circular future. How far has our research progressed? What educational resources and training programs on circular healthcare are already in place? Which products and services are now more circular?
Join us at Science Day for a comprehensive look at our accomplishments so far.
In the morning at 10:30 (prior to the start of the Science Day, the PAC (Project Advisory Committee) will also have its meeting (on invitation only).
