ESCH-R Consortium Visits Philips Customer Experience Center

November 19, 2024

On November 6th, our ESCH-R Consortium visited the Customer Experience Center of our consortium partner, Philips. The visit was led by Harald Tepper and Stephanie Resnick from Philips and offered a unique opportunity to explore Philips’ initiatives and efforts to achieve circularity in healthcare. As a consortium partner, Philips is an essential partner in ESCH-R’s mission to drive circularity in healthcare.

🔑 A few key takeaways from this day:

✅ Philips is moving towards a healthcare-focused, circular business model by integrating eco-conscious design principles and circular strategies across its product range, from home healthcare to hospitals. Central to this approach is reducing emissions, enhancing product longevity, and ensuring responsible end-of-life management for medical devices.

✅ Together, Philips and ESCH-R are spearheading initiatives to create a more circular ecosystem for medical devices, with a strong emphasis on developing reusable and recyclable alternatives to single-use products.

✅ The collaboration aims to address the complex balance between disposables (which reduce infection risk but create waste) and reusables (which are more circular but present cleaning and logistical challenges).

More exciting things to come!

Attendees included Nicole Hunfeld (PI, ESCH-R Consortium), project board members Jan Carel Diehl, Erik van Raaij, and Jilske Huijben.
